Solstice

As we draw near to the shedding
Of another remarkable circle
Our hearts full and our savings empty
Intimate with every known emotion
The tide rises and stirs our many griefs

Washes the shore of its debris
Carries our plans back into the sea
Palms gather gold, lifting it to the heavens
Sifting and showering back fragments of our lives
Tiny particles of gratitude, evidence of growth.

We talk of our fears late into the night
Until our faces are drawn
Grey as the sky before dawn
The color of tattered, indomitable hope
Then there is nothing left to do

But clasp our hands together
Risking another venture of faith
As we take our first step of unknown next
Through the heavy curtain of unmet dreams
Into our reborn life.
